Sept 10th - Sept 13th
After leaving the beautiful Dolomites we traveled through some incredible valleys. They were totally filled with fruit trees. Most of the trees were apple, but we saw lots of grapes, and some peaches. It was amazing to see such healthy farms and the trees looked so full of fruit!
We left the valley and traveled toward the town of Trento, then onwards toward Lago di Garda. Lake Garda is the largest freshwater lake in Italy. It is 52 km long and has a maximum depth of 346 m! That is really really deep. The water was clear, blue and COLD!! But we were brave and went swimming anyway!
We stayed in this really neat campsite called Bellavista, and it sure did have a great view. All along the lake they have made terraces to build houses, or plant olive trees on and the campsite is on the terraces. We got a camping spot right at the edge looking out over the whole lake. It was beautiful.
Every day we went for a beautiful walk along the shoreline, stopped for a lovely lunch, and a quick, cold swim and then an amazing Gelato! YUMMMMM!!
We found lots of little creatures living in the rocks along the side of the lake. We found snakes, (and a cool snake skin!) lots of different sized lizards, birds, ducks, grebes, cormorants and at night the bats kept swooping past us. It was such a neat place to walk around and discover things.
Lago di Garda was a beautiful place to spend three days! It was cool along the lake (only about 25 Celcius in the day and 15 at night), and we were able to sleep really well. We are on to Verona next for 3 days of history, a little bit of Romeo and Juliette and MORE GELATO!!
See you soon!
