September 1st
Wow, it's September!! I can't believe that this is our 3rd month of traveling. Today we left Postojna and travelled past Ljubljana, which is the capital city and headed north to the town of Radovljica. Our camping spot quiet and there were only a few campers. Most people seem to have gone home - I think School must be starting soon!!
We lucked out! the day we got there there was the last day for the pool for the year so we had a great afternoon swimming in the small and large pools.
I'm really missing my Synchro Swimming team! So I've been trying to practice a little everywhere there is a pool!
Liam is getting much better at swimming, he has been really working on his front swim. Getting better everyday!

Lake Bled and Bled Castle
Today we got up and drove to Lake Bled. It is a beautiful lake surrounded by villas, homes and mountains. We decided to hike the 6.5 km trail around the lake, and as we were walking we saw a trail that went up the side of the mountain to the castle. Bled Castle was first built in 1004 and has been destroyed and rebuilt many times since. The castle today is set up as a museum with displays of ancient finds from the castle, and with artifacts from the various owners of the castle. The best part of the castle was the view. You could see the entire lake including the small island in the middle of the lake that houses a church and monastery.
Behind my mom and dad you can see the Castle on the left and the Island on the right.
We learned that if your family owns one of the properties along lake Bled, you cannot sell it. You may only will it to another family member, a neighbour, or to the country of Slovenia. We saw many villas that were beautiful and well kept, and others that were completely left in ruin.
The church of the Assumption of Maria on the Island in Lake Bled. This island has has religious uses for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Temples to the the Slavic goddess of love Ziva were on this Island and after the region was converted to Christianity in 745 the island was converted to a Christian place of worship. You can visit the Island by row boat.
We also had a really special treat while we were walking around the lake. We noticed a lot of fisherman all along Lake Bled. they were all dressed the same and had signs out saying Carp Fishing. They wore dark green/Khaki pants and black shirts.
As we came along one side of the lake we met a fisherman that had just caught a HUGE carp. He was sooooo excited! He said it was 21.5kg. He said it was the largest Carp that he had ever caught and he thinks that it is one of the oldest fish in the lake. He let us pose with the fish and after they carefully took the fish back into the lake. He was very gentle with the fish and kept it wet by pouring water over it. It was really neat to see how proud he was of the fish.
We finished up our walk around lake Bled and had a nice lunch and then headed back to our campsite. And boy did it start to rain! IT rained and rained so hard all night long. We wer lucky out tent is really good, so our sleeping bags were not wet, but wow!! everything else was!
Good bye from Bled!
