Germany ~ Part 3

July 15th

Today we got up in the Morning and had a huge breakfast of Chocolate waffles, Chocolate coco pops and Nutella on toast! It was amazing. My mom and dad had coffee and cheese on toast – seemed like a pretty boring breakfast to me!

We went for a drive along the Danube river (Donau in German) and along steep gorge. It had a very nice landscape – Alongside of the river there were steep cliffs and the road went thought rock tunnel and under overhangs.

We got to the town of Sigmaringen and we toured the main castle. The Castle was built by the same family that built the Hohenzollen castle that we saw the other day. They were a very powerful and rich family in this area of Germany. They still own the castle but do not live there any more. We had a tour, but it was in German. They gave us booklets in English to read and follow along with. We were allowed to tour the rooms that have been preserved from the great grandfather of the current owner. We saw Princess Josephine’s rooms. We saw her dressing room – she had an entire room to do her hair. After she had had her bath she would could press buttons and servants would come and do her hair and bring dresses for her to wear. We learned she had to wear at least 4-6 different outfits every day! We got to see many of her dresses. We also saw Prince Karl Anton’s rooms. He had a gentlemen’s room that men would play cards in and they had special tables that had slate inside them and they could record the scores with chalk right on the tables. I really enjoyed touring the castle.

The King had a huge collection of military armaments. My favourite pieces were the suits of armour that fit the horses. We got headsets to listen in English to the all the stories about the different swords and guns and bows.

On our drive back to the campsite we stopped and had a little hike up to the top of the cliffs that look over the river. It was a really hard walk up to the top!

We got ice cream when we got home – That was amazing!! It was a beautiful way to end our day.

Today we got up and packed all of our things. We drove south to the Alps. I thought seeing the mountains for the first time was the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my entire life. I saw paragliders and hangliders circling the mountain. They were so high in the air. We also saw a gondola that goes up the mountain. I really hope that we get to go up the mountain tomorrow!!

We found a campsite on the side of Bannwaldsee (this is a beautiful lake that we went swimming in today!). The campsite is very crowded, but there is lots to do here.

After lunch we took a bus to see Castle Neuschwanstein. We hiked up a beautiful trail that lead us past a waterfall and up to a bridge where you can get amazing pictures of the castle. The bridge was really high up, it was sooooo crowded!

They had a limit to how many people could go on the bridge! We had a hard time getting a picture!

It was an amazing castle to see. King Ludwig II had it built and unfortunately died before it was finished.

It inspired Walt Disney to create the Disney castles. I would sure love to live here!

After, we went back to are camp site.

We had a big dinner and then I helped mom with laundry and dishes and then we fell asleep.

Talk to you later!
